Martial Arts Tatami Cleaning and Washing

Each type of tatami is produced with high quality materials; to keep its appearance and functionality at its best, we recommend to follow our maintenance tips.
The product, if well preserved, can continue to be perfectly functional for a period ranging from 10 to 15 years before replacement.

Cleaning

Before starting the cleaning operation, the Tatami area must be disassembled (see the procedure on the appropriate page), whether it is a puzzle area, folding or traditional modules.
Then take a clean cotton cloth, moisten it with a spray solution containing water and ammonia (2 caps of ammonia for a liter of water), or, instead, a liquid disinfectant is also optimal.
Clean the product on both sides, in order to eliminate and disinfect any residual or bacterial traces.

DO NOT USE HIGH PRESSURE WASHERS! The high-pressure water jet ruins the surfaces, impregnates the Tatami and accelerates its deformation.
At the same time, NEVER USE AGGRESSIVE DETERGENTS or those that produce foam, they also damage the product.
